Because of a decline in participation in the Alabama Walking Horse Futurity during the past five years, the WHAA has decided to phase this out until such time that there is an increase in interest and participation in this program. Therefore, this year no nominations for stallions, mares or weanlings will be taken. To be eligible for the yearling, two-year-old and three-year-old futurity divisions, a colt will have had to be nominated last year. Letters have been mailed to the individuals who nominated entries last year regarding the eligibility. This year the following futurity classes will be offered: Futurity Yearlings, Futurity Two-Year-Old Open, Futurity Two-Year-Old Park Pleasure, Futurity Three-Year-Old Open, and Futurity Three-Year-Old Park Pleasure. Next year, the Futurity Two-Year-Old and Three-Year-Old Open and Park Pleasure Classes will be offered and then the following year, only the Three-Year-Old classes will be offered. Each of these classes will pay out $700 in prize money.
